Direction - we recommend having the leash exit toward the back of the dog. If your dog runs predominately in front of or beside you this will give the optimum exit angle for the cord.

Adjustment - adjust the collar so that you can easily slide 4 fingers between the collar and the dogs neck, or just tight enough to keep the retractor from bouncing around.

Length of wear - while there’s no particular reason your dog couldn’t wear a SpeedHound collar all the time, we prefer to only use them when heading outside.

Pad Installation - unlace the collar from the buckle and adjuster. Remove the retractor, lace the collar thru one side of the pad, then thru the retractor, then thru the other side of the pad. Finally re-lace the tail of the collar thru the adjuster, then the buckle, and back thru the adjuster.
